Yeungnam University School of Mechanical Engineering's automobile production club 'Chunma DM' (Dream Maker, advisor Lee, Dong-joo) built their electronic vehicle and won first place in a national contest; they once again proved their reputation after receiving certification by the US society of automobile engineers (SAE) in 2001.

The Chunma DM Team took home first place at the 'National Collegiate Green-Safety Creative Electric Vehicle Contest' at the Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority for two days on May 27 and 28 under the motto 'green growth and automobile safety'.
This contest, which was hosted by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM), is in its second year this year and is prepared to foster and find next-generation talents to lead the future automobile industry. At this contest, 300 automobile fanatics from 30 university teams including YU, Korea University of Technology and Education, Sungkyunkwan University, Kyunghee University and Seoul National University of Science & Technology participated, and three high school teams also took part in this event.
The contest was divided into the control and steering safety sector race, acceleration performance sector race, and driving performance sector race. The 'control and steering safety sector race' checked the passing technologies and time for the slaloms (obstacles), and the 'acceleration performance sector race' was conducted by measuring the driving time for a 200m interval. The 'driving performance sector race' checked how fast a 45km distance was completed.
In result, Chunma DM scored high in all sectors and won first place, despite it being the first time to compete in this contest and won the Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs award. They also received prize money of 3 million won.
Fitting to its team name, 'Dream Maker', the Chunma DM team was able to take a step closer to their dreams in the future automobile sector. On this, Kang, Ji-won (junior; School of Mechanical Engineering) stated, "We were able to train our field adaptability through the education curriculum that integrates theory into work, and we trained our global competitiveness by participating in many international contests in the US, England and Japan." He also added with a smile, "The dream of Chunma DM is to display the strength of Korea in the electric vehicle sector, which is receiving a lot of attention as the next-generation 'green car', and to contribute in creating sustainable green growth for the entire world."
Meanwhile, following YU's Chunma DM team that won first place, the Korea University of Technology and Education's 'Driven' team and 'Stardom' team tied for second, followed by Chosun University's team for fourth, and the Seoul National University of Science and Technology placed fifth.
